„Welche Funktion kann und soll Literatur im Zeitalter der Klimakrise erfüllen und welche ästhetischen Strategien sind dafür tauglich?“ Im Rahmen des literaturwissenschaftlichen Masterseminars »Die Klimakrise in den europäischen Literaturen« sind Studierende der Freien Universität Berlin in Kooperation mit dem LCB dieser Frage nachgegangen und haben einen Digital Essay konzipiert, der das Thema Climate Fiction aus einer europäischen Perspektive beleuchtet. Die Inhalte sind in vier Sektionen mit unterschiedlichen Schwerpunkten eingeteilt: Zuerst wird die Rolle der Climate-Fiction in der Jugendliteratur in den Blick genommen. Die Emotionen, die der Diskurs um die Klimakrise auslöst, werden in der zweiten Sektion aufgearbeitet und hinsichtlich ihres aktivistischen Potentials befragt. Der dritte Teil thematisiert die klimabedingten Transformationsprozesse von Landschaften und Sozialräumen sowie deren Verstrickungen. Zuletzt wird die Frage nach den ästhetischen Strategien des Schreibens im Anthropozän diskutiert und Literatur auf ihre Produktivität hin untersucht, in aus ihrer Tradition heraus entwickelten Formen über Raum und Zeit zu spekulieren.

“What role could and should literature play in the age of climate emergency and which aesthetic strategies are suitable for it?” In the context of a literary master’s seminar »The climate crisis in the European literatures«, students at the Free University of Berlin in cooperation with the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin investigated this question and conceived a digital essay that sheds light on climate fiction from a European perspective. The content is subdivided into four sections with different focuses: the first focal point is the role of climate fiction in children and Young Adult literature. The emotions which are triggered by climate change are explored in the second section. The third section deals with the climate-related transformation processes of landscapes and social spaces and their entanglement. Lastly, the aesthetic strategies of writing in the Anthropocene and the productiveness of literature to speculate about time and space within evolved traditional forms are discussed in section four.
